Welcome to the 9th National Infection Biology / Swedish Microbiology Meeting

November 16-18, 2021

During the 21st Century, the influence of microorganisms on our health and the environment has been realized in ways, both good and bad, that have never been imagined before. Microbiology is now an integrative science where discoveries in microbial pathogenesis may impact studies of various other sub-disciplines of microbiology, such as microbial ecology. Microbiologists now understand that microorganisms utilize similar molecular mechanisms for diverse purposes in both the host and the environment.

The 9th National Infection Biology/Swedish Microbiology Meeting will be a virtual meeting that aims to provide a broad vision on current state-of-the-art microbiology techniques and research in Sweden. Keynote speakers are Swedish researchers working within the sub-disciplines of bacteriology, virology, parasitology, host response, clinical infection biology, environmental microbiology, zoonotics, and new methods. To involve junior researchers, additional talks will be selected from the submitted poster abstracts. Poster presentations will be organized as digital poster walks that allow participants to present and discuss their work with other participants.

The meeting is co-organized by the National Doctoral Programme in Infections and Antibiotics (NDPIA) and the Swedish Society for Microbiology (SFM) with the aims to enhance cross-disciplinary research in Sweden within the fields of infection biology and microbiology as well as to strengthen the Swedish network of scientists within these fields.

Svenska Föreningen för Mikrobiologi (SFM) - The Swedish Society for Microbiology is a life science membership organization for individuals interested in microbiological sciences and promotes progress and growth in microbiology in Sweden by being a vehicle for development of high quality fundamental and applied research among Swedish microbiologists.

The National Doctoral Programme in Infections and Antibiotics (NDPIA) is a national program managed by Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) and funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet). NDPIA aims to connect research environments studying infection biology and antibiotics throughout Sweden in part by offering courses and workshops that promote scientific research and recruitment of young scientists to these areas of research.
